The architect in me loves to plan— to figure things out before the actual construction begins. The sketchbook becomes a kind of refuge: a place of shelter or protection from danger, difficulty, or trouble. Mostly, it’s about a conversation, an approach, a quiet “good to meet you.” As I feel my way through a concept, it becomes a guide to the next step.
I’ve learned that, importantly, it’s in the doing. Once I have a sense of direction, I can move forward with confidence and a set of options. And at times, the conceptual designs—the early, preliminary work—are more spontaneous and expressive. They offer a valuable roadmap, bringing me back to the elemental and the simple, clarifying both thought and direction.
